My name is Anne Lahr and I am proud to be a teacher. I first worked as a special education aide at Maple Grove Jr.-Sr. High School in Bemus Point, NY. I worked with students with learning disabilities. Sometimes I would go to class with them and sometimes I would work with them in small groups in the resource room. After twelve years of being an aide I went back to school and earned a master’s degree in education from St. Bonaventure University in St. Bonaventure, NY.
I was fortunate enough to stay at Maple Grove where I taught 7th, 8th, and 11th grade English. In 2000 my father passed away and I decided to move to Florida to be with my mother. I was hired by Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne, FL. I started there as a 7th grade English teacher and then became the 8th-grade American history teacher. Next year I will move to the high school where I will teach three sections of World History honors and two sections of World Religions. I have never taught either of these courses before so I will be starting from scratch. I guess I will be an old new teacher.
I have signed up for this course to become a more efficient user of educational technology. I often start using a new tool without vetting it or setting my objective first. I have to really work on clearly stating the objective of what I want my student’s to learn then look for a tool that will enrich the learning experience for my students.
